Why Coaching and not Teaching?

The more you study Second Language (L2) Acquisition, the more you realize that a second language is not learned, it's acquired. Infants acquire their native language by using it, not by studying it, and L2 students must discover this for themselves. 

As classrooms are academic in nature, it's difficult for L2 students to get the authentic practice they need; it's not what a learner does inside a classroom, it's what the learner does outside the classroom with the L2 language. 

Because of that, most students need a coach to help them discover their needs, determine their goals, and make plans. Coaching focuses on the student, not on the language. A coach will ask guided questions that lead the coachee towards self-awareness, possible options, actions to take that align with the coachee's goals.
